My Favorite Travel Companions

I’m a big supporter of tourism here in New Orleans. I know over the years New Orleans has the stigma that it is a party city or crime-ridden. While we do have our moments of shenanigans, (yes, I said shenanigans) we are also known be a great place to visit with your entire family. The holidays is no different. Christmas in New Orleans is a travelers delight since a trip to New Orleans can be affordable and a complete cultural experience.

Whether your a local or visiting for the Holidays make sure to check out my top 5 places to visit while spending time in New Orleans for the Holidays.

Top 5 New Orleans To Do’s While Traveling this Holiday Season

1. City Park’s Celebration In the Oaks:

Celebration in the Oaks in one of our countries best lighted exhibits. A feat that takes over 10 months to prepare for, City Park hosts over 12 acres of lighted exhibits in addition to other rides and attractions for the entire family. Whether your a young couple or an complete family, this nostalgic attraction brings visitors from all over the country in hopes to see a Winter Wonderland of lights.

2. St. Louis Cathedral on Jackson Square:

For over 65 years, Caroling in Jackson Square in front of St. Louis Cathedral in the candlelight brings a piece of history to locals and tourist alike. You can not help but feel the heartfelt connection you make with your fellow carolers as you sing some of Christmas finest music with world renowned musicians as well as local area performers. It will become an instant check in your bucket list.

3. Fulton Street:
“Miracle on Fulton Street” is a favorite in my family. Sponsered by Harrah’s Casino, the Fulton Street Mall is transformed into a Christmas Wonderland with a New Orleans Twist. From costumed carolers, local performers and beautiful carols performed by local choirs, your children will light up as they take pictures with Toy Soldiers, drop off their letters to Santa and maybe even take a picture with the Santa. Naturally he will be there, he is a big New Orleans Saints WhoDat Fan!!

4. Krewe of Jingle Holiday Parade:
Presented by the DDD & The Roosevelt New Orleans Dec 1st. 2012
Already in its fifth year, New Orleans’ official holiday parade, the “Krewe of Jingle”, will have visitors and locals enjoying the splendor of Christmas as local marching bands, all our favorite Christmas characters and many Holiday surprises come out to celebrate Christmas in the Big Easy!

5. The Roosevelt Teddy Bear Tea & other Special Events:

I’m partial to the Roosevelt, but there are other hotels that offer fun holiday festivities for the local children. The Roosevelt has an amazing light displays that runs from November 26th thru January 6th. If you thought the historic hotel was phenomenal on a normal visit, the hotel transforms into a breathtaking display of winter splendor. From the Gingerbread Village to their Annual Teddy Bear Tea, the over 80 year tradition of transforming their historical hotel into a Holiday Attraction is a sight to be seen by all New Orleans visitors and locals alike. You will not be disappointed!

Come on down for a visit, you will have a blast! Don’t forget to pick up your Mr. Bingle while your in town!
