When you are taking a trip or vacation and you realize you are going to fly, there is a better than average chance you are going to feel some stress about it. Whether you are stressed about the flying itself or simply about the costs involved, flying is not always easy for us. While there is nothing easy about getting over a fear of flying, finding a great airline rate is an easy fix for sure.
Here are some airline booking tips to make sure you get the best rate possible:
Make the middle of the week your travel day
Right off the bat you can save a huge amount of money by agreeing to travel mid-week. Fewer people fly during those times so you are going to get a great rate. Most advisors say that Tuesday and Wednesday are the ultimate travel days for getting a good airline price. Test the waters and compare and contrast all the days of the week, You might be shocked at how much money you can save.
Harness social media
More and more, businesses are moving towards social media as a way to bring in new customers. Like any good business, airlines are beginning to join the movement. If you really want to find some great deals on your airline booking, like all of the airline’s Facebook pages and follow them on Twitter. You will find all kinds of excellent offers coming your way. You have to move fast though. They come through and get scooped up rather quickly.
Rather than looking up destination, look up the cost
Most people start looking at the destination they are going when chasing airline booking. Instead of searching for this, search instead within a budget. This will then bring up all the options that are available to you within a reasonable area. If you can connect at a smaller airport that is much cheaper, why not? Look up your budget amount and a general target location and you will find some hidden bargains.
Fly during odd hours
Few people take advantage of the option of sleeping through your flight. Why not fly in the middle of the night and get some rest while you do it? These flights are invariably cheaper and will be rather relaxing for you in comparison to flying in the middle of rush hour. Consider the red eyes and you will be rolling in added savings on your airline booking.
Be flexible with options
Finally, make a decision to be totally flexible. Do they need a connecting flight or volunteer? Raise your hand! Do they have a much cheaper flight going out a day earlier than planned? Go for it. Whatever is needed to cut the cost of your flight, be willing to do it and you will end up flying for next to nothing most of the time. There are occasions where your flight can end up being totally free. Just be willing to bend and you will be surprised at the options that will open up.
Do you have any booking tips that might be of use to others?
I don’t travel much anymore. Surprisingly enough my 92 year old Mom does! She is really good about finding the great prices. Yes, she does travel during the week-but stays away from red eyes! She also scours the internet for the best price to where ever she happens to be going!
I don’t get to travel too much anymore, but I remember, if you can, always book as flight as far into the future as you can.
I hadn’t considered the value of social media in finding the best travel deals. That’s a great idea. I need to friend and follow all of the airlines & my favorite locations.
my tip is to clear the cookies from your history as they get stored & the prices only go up and up the more you search!
Midweek travel is always cheaper
Great tips! I never even thought about following the airlines on social media to get deals
