Christmas in Monroe-West Monroe is filled with community celebrations, shopping, spectacular fireworks displays, and fun activities for the entire family. The other north Louisiana sister cities to the east of Shreveport-Bossier City host holiday events to help visitors get in the the spirit of the season.

Visit the Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum on 323 Walnut Street, Monroe from 5- 8 p.m now through Dec. 22 to mail letters to Santa at the Peppermint Post Office and enjoy story time with Mrs. Claus. You can even visit with the big man himself as Santa Claus makes an appearance. Admission is $5 or $10. For more information call 318-361-9611.

Love all things redneck? Monroe and West Monroe do, and they celebrate Christmas as only rednecks can do- through a redneck parade. Parade-goers can enjoy floats with fun-loving redneck themes and throws that range from beads, toys, and other surprises. The parade starts at the Bacomville Area located at 100 Price Street and Smith Street, West Monroe beginning at 10 a.m on Dec. 7. For more information call 318-388-5858.

Want to see Elves this season? You can at the Strauss Theatre, 1300 Lammy Lane, Monroe. This production will spread holiday joy to all who attend. Admission is $10 to $20. The dates and times are Thursday and Friday 7:30 p.m., Saturday 2:00 p.m. until end, Dec 12 to Dec 14. Check for more performances, as well.

Want to enjoy and old-fashioned Christmas? Antique Alley in Monroe can help you with that and you can even collect all of your holiday gifts as you shop dozens of locally owned shops. You can find furniture, antiques, glassware, pottery, old coins, records, jewelry, vintage clothing, and so much more. For more information call 800-843-1872. The Old Fashioned Christmas begins at noon on Dec. 14 and lasts until 5 p.m.

Calling all Duck Dynasty fans! It’s a Commander Christmas at the Community Trust Bank River Market! Come enjoy live music, a Duck Commander Look-a-Like contest judged by Sadie and John Luke Robertson, a Christmas flotilla with the stars of Duck Dynasty, a Duck Commander Duck Derby, and more! River Market opens at: 10:00 am; Look-a-Like contest: 2:00 pm; Duck Commander Derby: 3:00 pm; Flotilla: 6:30-7:30; Laser Light Show: 7:30; Trey Hawkins Band: 9:00-11:00 pm.
Admission is free. Event will be held Dec. 14.
