5 Tropical Destinations to Visit This Winter #BayouTravel

Winter doesn’t have to be spent in the snow and cold. Instead of spending all of your winter days shivering and fighting off the seasonal blahs, consider a tropical destination for a winter getaway this year.

Check out these five tropical locations to visit this winter.

Costa Rica

The winter season is a great time to visit Costa Rica. December and January sees the beginning of the country’s dry season and you can count on 70 degree days being the norm. In Costa Rica you can enjoy gorgeous beaches, lush rainforests, and an amazing array of wildlife. Whether you want to try out a zip-line to soar above the ground , soak up some sun on the beach, or climb a volcano, you can find plenty of fun and relaxation in Costa Rica.

Kauai

The oldest in the Hawaiian island chain has plenty to offer for winter travelers. Whether you want to enjoy some time on the beach or just enjoy some low-key down time, Kauai is your place. Kauai has it all — city life and country living — wrapped into one tropical package. When you go to Kauai, plan to spend time outside as the landscape and terrain is the appeal to this gorgeous island.

Key West

If you aren’t interested in traveling outside the United States, Key West is a great choice. With warm, sunny beaches, you can enjoy scuba diving, biking, or just doing whatever takes your fancy. The laid back atmosphere of Key West inspires relaxation. Choose your activities — from strolling through the aquarium to dropping by literary great Ernest Hemingway’s home, Key West has plenty to offer to winter travelers. Since the winter season won’t be part of the hurricane season, you can expect prices to be a little higher, but your visit is less likely to be interrupted due to a massive storm.

Puerto Rico

If you decide to make Puerto Rico your winter destination, you won’t need to worry about getting a passport or exchanging your currency — because it is a United States territory, those American bills will be just fine and you won’t be traveling internationally. You can usually find great deals on travel packages year round. You can choose to enjoy nightlife in San Juan or relax with some sightseeing on this gorgeous island.

Belize

You will find ancient Mayan ruins and wildlife aplenty in Belize for your winter getaway destination. Whether you are wanting to snorkel in breathtakingly beautiful waters, or you just want to relax and soak in the atmosphere, Belize is a great choice for a winter vacation.

Throw off your winter doldrums with a tropical getaway. Choose one of these great destinations or pick your own and enjoy that winter vacation!

Where would your top tropical winter destination be?

I have heard so many good things about Costa Rico and Puerto Rico! Hawaii would be nice too. Key West would probably be my choice since it is on mainland US. Of course Belize–oh my I’d like to travel to them all if I could!!

I can’t believe I haven’t made it down to Key West yet. That’s certainly one of my goals, although I suspect it won’t happen yet this winter.

Anyone of these would be a dream come true. I have actually never been on a beach before. I’m not a martian either we just work work work and very little play. Hopefully we can go soon. I am dying to put my feet in the sand.
