Our skin is one of the biggest indicators of our health, not surprisingly because it also happens to be the biggest organ. Everything that we go through in life, has a way of changing the appearance and health of our skin. Likewise, the food that we eat is the best way for our bodies to absorb the nutrients that we need, and those nutrients enhance our appearance. Some food though, might be the last thing you want to try, especially if you regularly struggle with keeping your skin looking healthy and at its best.
Some foods are able to do everything from causing inflammation and redness to breakouts. These are some of the most commonly known foods that you should avoid if you want better skin.
Corn Syrup
Most people do not even realize how much corn syrup is in their food, especially if their diet is high in processed foods, because it is not something we grab when hungry. Corn syrup can be found in breads, pasta and anything that is particularly starchy. Start paying attention to labels and switch out what you might normally grab for a corn syrup free option if you want to avoid the inflamed appearance your skin sometimes has.
Sugar
Like corn syrup, sugar is added to just about every processed food on the shelves that we shop. Sugar has been shown to create the collagen issues that women hate and have become apparent in younger and younger men and women. Even if there is not a lot of the actual ingredient, starch can break down into sugar which will also cause collagen to build up and damage skin.
Milk
No one is saying you should avoid milk, but milk and dairy products are known to irritate skin and individuals that are dairy sensitive or lactose intolerant have a higher instance of acne breakouts or just plain redness and irritation appearing in patches. If you notice that your skin is regularly red or itchy right after drinking milk, reduce the amount you consume at a time.
Deep Fried Meat
Deep fried meat is a double don’t if you want to keep your skin looking its best. When meat is fried it goes through a process where the fat and protein make AGES, which age the skin. You won’t notice the difference immediately after eating, or even months after eating, but a lifetime of eating deep fried foods will catch up with you and age your skin more than you end up liking.
Artificial Sweeteners
The average person consumes a lot of artificial sweeteners because these products are used to help us reduce the amount of sugar and calories we take in every day. Unfortunately, a lot of these sweeteners have shown to create allergic responses in individuals, and some so slight that you might not even realize it is happening. Sudden redness or inflammation of the skin can be attributed to these sweeteners, but luckily, it is relatively easy to avoid products containing these alternate products altogether.
My daughter is always complaining about her skin! Her skin is the unhealthiest when her diet is out of whack. But now that she knows which foods to avoid, she can work on the health of her skin and avoid certain foods that overall effect her skin and breakouts.
