Traveling with the kids can be stressful wherever you are, but when you’ve got the hustle and bustle of the city to contend with, too, it can be even more challenging. In this article from Passsmart, we share some tips to traveling in the city with the tots in tow. From the transport to take to how to keep them occupied, we’ll help you to tackle the crowds and have a great trip.
Avoiding the rush
You’ll need to plan your journey carefully when it comes to taking kids to the city. Avoiding rush hour will make traveling a lot less stressful, so try to make your journey at a quieter time if possible.
Deciding how to travel is another important thing you’ll need to consider. Driving yourself might seem like the most convenient option, but if you’re unfamiliar with the city, trying to navigate the roads can cause extra stress. It can be even more stressful if you’re on vacation and have a rental car to get used to too.
Finding different ways to get around is easy in the city; it’s just a case of choosing the best transport to suit you and your family. Taxis are a good option because you haven’t got to worry about losing the kids in the crowds, and it gives you a good opportunity to see the city from the comfort of the car.
Depending on where you are, there might also be more alternative ways to travel, like tram or monorail. The kids will love the adventure, and they’re often very family-friendly ways to see the city.
Cities can be child-friendly too
Big cities might not seem like the perfect places to take the kids, but some of the best things to see and do can be found amongst the crowds. Whether you’re in an familiar city or somewhere completely new, the best activities for the kids are often right under your nose.
The great thing about the city is that there’ll always be someone to ask or an information desk where you can find out more about local activities and places of interest. Look out for museums, which are often free and the kids will love. Find out what local events are on, and try to find a local park. Yes, there’s grass in the city too you know!
Family-friendly City Breaks
New York
It’s one of the most famous cities in the world, and the big apple is one of the most popular city break locations for families. With an impressive Toys R Us, tummy rumbling M&M factory and more museums than you’d ever have time to visit, there’s no shortage of things to do.
Barcelona
Voted one of the most child-friendly cities in the world, Barcelona is great if you’re after a sun soaked family vacation. With the Montjuic Castle, the Barcelona Aquarium and the Magic Fountains for the kids to explore, they’ll never get bored. There’s even the Tibidabo amusement park for the more adventurous kids to enjoy.
London
There’s so much to see and do in London that you might struggle to fit it all in. With Buckingham Palace to visit, Trafalgar square to see and red buses to ride around the city on, you won’t have time to stop. Don’t forget to pay a visit to the London science museum, and take a trip on the London eye. The kids will love it, and there are so many family-friendly places to stay right at the heart of the action.
