I love to travel but you know the saying: There’s no place like home. Dorthy sure knew what she was talking about. Exploring your own city is a must for any family or travel. Not only is getting to your favorite local attraction budget friendly, but you can always scout the internet for deals throughout the year. Or, if your favorite attraction offers a yearly membership, being a member is the best over all deal for any family.
This week I’m featuring one of my favorite all time favorite local attractions: Audubon Aquarium of Americas in New Orleans, Louisiana. Every color of the rainbow is represented in the water and children (and adults) are instantly magnetized by its beauty. Being a ‘bargainista’ I buy discounted tickets to various attractions all year long and save for the weekly summertime outing. Best part about the aquarium, you can beat the heat in the air conditioning!
My kids get so excited visiting the Audubon Aquarium. Penguins, sea otters and the jellyfishes are their top 3 favorite friends to visit while roaming the underwater world. I love that they can get an hands on experience at some of the many exhibits at the aquarium. My kids have been wanting to do the backstage penguin pass but time was a major issue during this visit, so I promised the kids we will meet the penguins on our next visit!
Why is it that my kids are instantly attracted to the jellyfish?!? The kids just loved this jellyfish sculpture. I love all the art decor and sculptures located within the Audubon Aquarium of Americas. Visiting New Orleans with the kids is so fun. The Audubon Aquarium of Americas is centrally located on the Mississippi River just a few blocks from the French Quarter. You can park for the day, visit the aquarium and take a stroll and have lunch in the French Quarter. Family fun is just a trolly ride away!

I wish we had something like this in my area! We have a children’s museum and that’s about it. I Love the photographs of the fish, I know my family would love taking a trip to something like this.
We always love visiting aquariums, unfortunately there is nothing nearby us here in Alberta! Thanks for sharing your visit!!!
Thanks for the reminder, I should be working on my local Aquarium post as well
I definitely want to hit your Aquarium the next time I am back in town! I was trying hard to win a trip to the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, but no dice!
Doesn’t the Universe know we need a full #teamscarf reunion?
I could spend all day, every day at an aquarium! It’s sort of… magical. The 6 year old came home from SeaWorld last summer and had to have his whole room redone in an under-water/pirate theme because he wanted it to look like seaworld but with pirates LOL… I can’t really blame him. I grew up in Chicago where they have the Shedd aquarium… Amazing!!
We love going to the aquarium–we have one of the best–the NY Aquarium in Cooney Island–but no matter where you visit your fishy friends-its always a good day
thanks for sharing and GREAT PIX!!
Wow looks like a great place to visit. I bet my boys would love watching the fish all day!
I love anything that has to do with sea life! This looks awesome.
How fun! The aquarium is always a favorite of our family!
I have never been to new orleans but from all of your fun posts looks like a family destination too.
Your aquarium looks wonderful! I need to take the grand-girls to the coast and visit our aquarium thanks for the idea!
Looks fun and educational! I would love to got there!
I was so disappointed to miss this after Niche Mommy last year. I tried to make it but it was closing in 15 minutes so I decided not to bother.
