When I was 12 year old I had my very first New Orleans Mardi Gras Experience. It was actually a Metairie Parade, but 23 years later this blogging mama has had her fair share of Mardi Gras moments. Now that my children are older, I struggle to find ways to incorporate family vacations into the kid’s school and social schedules. Do you have a teen? Trust me, that girl will NOT miss school for anything. I find myself using Mardi Gras Break as the perfect time to take a few days off of my full-time job, blogging and mommy duties to whisk the family to the beach for a couple days. but I don’t have to go too far to enjoy Mardi Gras AND the Beach!
Alabama Gulf Coast is the perfect family beach destination. Aside from the sugar white sandy beaches, you can find a Mardi Gras right around the corner. Did you know that Mardi Gras in Mobile is actually the oldest annual Carnival celebration in the United States. Yes, Mardi Gras was founded in Alabama in 1703, 15 years before New Orleans started their annual celebration. I’ve always wanted to go to Mardi Gras. Living in New Hampshire, the odds aren’t great, but I can still hope. It looks like so much fun!

I’ve never been to Mardi Gras but I love looking at everyone’s pictures each year on Instagram! We have our own little parade, it’s the Fantasy Fest Parade in Key West – like Mardi Gras but 1/20 of the size. LOL!
I’ve always wanted to attend the Mardi Gras! I love New Orleans and I can’t wait to come back!
Thanks for such a great write up on Gulf Shores Mardi Gras. My mother has headed up and rolled out this parade for 30 years. It is a great tradition and so much fun! The parade usually last an hour and half and has over 45 units in it! After the GS parade is the Orange Beach Parade and then the LuLu’s boat parade and celebration. Come see us for some family fun!
