Challenge Your Teens & Tweens This Summer with Rock Climbing - Slidell Rocks Spotlight

When I started my blog in 2008 I did so with the hopes of chronicling our journey through Girl Scouts and living in the New Orleans Metro area. Ideas like “What to do? Where to visit? Field Trip Ideas for your Girl Scout Troop” and much more. My babies aren’t little anymore and keeping them entertained during the summer months is easier in some ways yet challenging.

Let’s face it! When the kiddos were younger, a few hours at the local splash pad and a picnic lunch (which we still do) is all you needed to get them tired and entertained for a few hours. Now that they are older, every activity costs an arm and a leg!

Recently I took my kids rock climbing at Slidell Rocks. We haven’t been to Slidell Rocks in ages! It’s been at least 8-10 years ago since we were birthday party guests and back then, rock climbing didn’t interest my kids. Now that they are older, stronger and competitive I decided to challenge them to an afternoon of climbing.

For under $15 your teen/tween has an all day pass to Slidell Rocks, the only gym in the area that offers Bouldering, Top-Rope, and Lead Climbing and perfect for all ages, adults too! If you love a deal, visit Groupon.com to download a 2 for $22 access pass which includes all-day admission, harness. shoes and chalk bag for one low price. That comes out to $11 a piece!

My kids love a challenge and we loved the flexibility of an all-day pass. Physically my kids were able to reach the top several times and after their muscles were tired we took a short break before we resumed climbing. At 11 & 15 years old, they were both able to climb without my climbing as wlel but I did have to spot my daughter since my son was too young to be a spotter.

Since Slidell Rocks have extended their hours for the summer, we can leave for a quick lunch break and come back without paying an additional fee. Slidell Rocks does offer snacks and beverages as well as lockers for any of your personal items. If you’re looking for an affordable summer activity with your kids who love a challenge, Slidell Rocks and rock climbing is definitely for them!
