You may shop at thrift stores to save money. Just by choosing a thrift store over a retail store, you are already saving. But did you know you can save even more? Take a look below at 5 ways to save money when thrifting. When you keep these tips in mind, you are sure to save even more on your shopping adventure.
1. Carry any necessary ID’s with you.
Just by carrying your ID, you can get any discounts you may be eligible for. Some shops offer senior discounts and student discounts. If you qualify for these, be sure you have your ID to show and save.
2. Know the restock schedule and plan accordingly.
Ask employees what day of the week the store is restocked. You will want to be sure you shop these days. Not only will you see the new merchandise that comes in, but you will be there when old merchandise is possibly marked down.
3. Ask about discounts when you enter.
Many times, store sales are not advertised well. As soon as you enter the store, ask what the deals are for that day. Shoes may be half off, shirts may be BOGO, or movies may be two for $1. It helps to ask so you know before you begin.
4. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your finds!
That dark brown television stand may not look like much, but with a little sanding and paint it can become a cool end table. Look at objects with a creative eye. Will paint spruce it up? What about new fabric? Can it be used in another way? If the answer is yes, grab it!
5. Ask about coupons and where to find them.
Our local thrift store offers coupons on the back of grocery store receipts. I would not have known this unless I asked, so now I frequent that grocer when I can. Ask employees where coupons are offered so you can be sure to hunt for them!
You can save big bucks when thrifting, and when you follow these tips you can save even more. Give them a try!
