Clinton Kelly

If your anything like I am, you’re probably a HUGE Clinton Kelly Fan! I never get a chance to watch daytime programming & rarely watch evening television as well, but when I do get a chance to sit in front of the television I’m watching shows like What Not To Wear. I love the brutal honesty of the show and get great tips from the Clinton Kelly. How amazing a $5000 Visa card would be to spend only on myself? But what is more important is getting great styling tips from someone who knows about fashion.

You can imagine how excited I was to hear that Clinton Kelly would be coming to the New Orleans area for a Spring Style Event at our local Macy’s Department Store. Macy’s always puts on a great event and this weekend was a total blast! It was by far the biggest event I have been to at our local Macy’s and very well organized. Clinton Kelly was so adorable & personable. I laughed , learned and more importantly left with some great tips to share with my readers.

Styling Tips from Clinton Kelly

Remind Yourself You Have a Body
Clinton (we’re like BFF’s now) says that if your wearing yoga pants more than 3 times a week (when not working out) you’re an addict. Loose clothing will actually make you look bigger than structured clothing.

Get a Good Tailor
Clothing is not always a perfect fit. Using a good tailor will allow clothing to flatter you in the appropriate areas and can make an outfit look more complete.

Walking Short Are Hot
If you’re going to wear a waling shorts make sure your not using the pockets of the shorts. Nothing is worse than adding more bulk to your body than adding keys or phones to your walking shorts. Also, if wearing white walking shorts (or pants), make sure to have the pockets stitched close to minimize the leg while wearing white.

On Denim Colored Jeans
Denim Colored Jeans is a trend that is suitable for all ages. Not only is it a great casual look but you can also dress it up for weekend looks as well.

The ‘Perfect’ Jeans

The average woman will try on 20 pairs of jeans before she will find the ‘right’ one. Be prepared to to spend time in the fitting room & “bring a Xanex if needed.”

Can I Wear Skinny Jeans?
Skinny jeans are not made for every body type. The right pair depends on which body part you want to accentuate. If you’re wanting to elongagte the leg, choose a straight leg with a small boot cut.

Losing Weight?
Always dress the body you have & not the body you ‘want’ to have. Accentuate your best features & body parts & remember as I mentioned earlier, loose clothing is not the answer!

Professional Bra Fitting

Having the right bra can make a significant difference on how a shirt can appear on your body. Have a professional bra fitting to create beter lines. You bust should be half way between your shoulders and your elbows. Also, a camisole is a must to create a slimmer look

Great advice right?!? For more style tips make sure to purchase his newest book release: “Oh No She Didn’t”. As Clinton Kelly says “Try not to stress out about what other people are wearing, wear what makes you feel good.” I loved the looks I saw at the Spring Style Event. I didn’t even mention the shoes!! I could probably do an entire post on the shoes but let’s just say after going to the event, I haven’t worn flip flops since!! Going to see Clinton Kelly at Macy’s department store definitely got me ready to update my wardrobe just a tad. Who’s ready for a shopping day?

I think the best tip is not to stress over what other people are wearing, but to just wear what makes you feel good. Not every trend is going to work for every body type. Looks like you had a lot of fun!

Wow, his tips are so good. It totally stinks that we always have to try on so many jeans before we find the right pair though, but he’s right!

Clinton should stay in my closet and choose what I should wear! Hehehe, all great tips! I love skinny jeans, my husband doesn’t, argh! And I really need to go get a bra fitting!

I can always tell if my look works from my husband. He may not know style, but he has a dead giveaway face, can’t pull off a lie to save his life. So if he gives a double take when I come downstairs on date night, I’ve done well! Then, I stick with those outfits/lines/styles and apply the rest of the week. That said, it certainly sounds like I should be watching this show!

I’ve been losing weight and I need to get a pro bra fitting again, I like getting them at Macy’s so I will go there later on this Spring, the right bra definitely makes a HUGE difference under clothing, especially the lighter knits for Spring!

I want to see YOU walking the runway next! :-)

I am a huge fan of Clinton Kelly, and I love the fact he tells you to dress the body you have. It’s so much better for women to love themselves right now, not how they wish they would be!

For some reason that orange dress is really appealing, and I usually don’t like orange.
