Americas Most Romantic Winery #BayouTravel

Think Napa Valley, California is the only place to have a romantic winery experience? Think again! Locations throughout the United States are growing grapes and producing top quality wines that rival their European and South American counterparts. If you’re looking for a romantic winery getaway, here are some suggestions from all over the country to get you started!

O’Brien Estate – Napa Valley, California

While Napa Valley isn’t the only place to go for out of this world wineries, it still boasts some of the best. This family owned 33-acre vineyard produces high quality wines, in the style of the Bordeaux region of France. While some wineries purchase their grapes from a variety of vineyards, O’Brien’s wines, including Bordeaux, Chardonnay, and Merlot are only made from the grapes that are grown in the vineyard. The focus is to produce top quality wines in small batches to ensure the best quality wine possible. Wine tasting tours are offered where guests are treated to sample four to five varieties of wine along with an explanation of the process. To pluck an additional romantic string, O’Brien Estates offers a set of wines that tells a story through both the names of the wine and poetry that is on the label.

Sokol Blosser – Oregon
Oregon’s wine scene didn’t start taking shape until the 1970’s, but has been producing some top quality vintages on over 19,000 acres of land since then. Sokol Blosser in Dayton is a family owned winery that boasts several Pinot Noir’s, Chardonnay, Riesling, and a sparkling wine on their roster. Enjoy samples in their tasting room with views that frame Mt. Hood, attend a food and wine pairing class, or pull up a chair on the front porch where you can relax with snacks and wine. The location is perfect for couples, small groups, or hosting private events.

Messina Hof – Texas
Deep in the heart of Texas is the Messina Hof winery. Carrying on the tradition of wine making started in 1560 by Spanish missionaries the winery is based on the cornerstones of family, tradition, and romance. The wine itself is the most awarded and renowned in Texas. Winery tours and tastings, along with an on-site bed and breakfast can help you create a romantic wine experience. A full range of wines including dry red, dry white, sparkling, port, and dessert wines ensure no matter what flavor profile you enjoy, there will be something for you.

The Phillip Carter Winery of Virginia– Virginia
California might be the best known US destination for wineries but Virginia’s winemaking history dates to 1608 when English settlers at Jamestown planted grapes to make into wine. By 1759 Charles Carter began grape growing in King George County, Virginia with both native and European grapes. Today, Philip Carter Strother a direct descendant of Charles Carter owns the Phillip Carter Winery and produces wines of the same quality developed in the 18th century. Make sure to taste the Cleve (if available), which is only produced during exceptional vintages by blending Petit Verdot and Tannat to create a full bodied red.

Have you visited a romantic winery you would like to include? Can you see yourself having a couples only vacation with your loved one?

I have never been to a winery but would like to one of these days–maybe one in upstate NY.

Napa Valley is beautiful and there are so many great wineries to visit there. Joseph Phelps is my favorite but Silver Oak is absolutely gorgeous! We also visited some fantastic wineries in Virginia.

I used to live just 30 minutes from Napa and really miss spending my weekends there visiting the wineries.
