New Year’s weekend we took our Girl scout troops on a grand adventure of touring the USS Kidd in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. We had never been, and had the opportunity to have a sleepover on the ship.
The girls were so excited, but I have to say, I was a bit apprehensive. I am all for a new adventure but with 20 girls (ages 6-11), I did not know how they would react to the tight ship quarters and also the fact that the ship is docked but still on water, may have resulted in some girls (or adults) getting sick. To my amazement no one was sick or felt claustrophobic.
The tour was full of WW2 history so I felt that it was very educational. They also mentioned how 37 officers died on the ship which of course is not something I want the girls hearing before bedtime! Heeee
The only downside was that we had frosty temperatures that weekend in Louisiana and although they did have heating in the sleeping quarters, for some reason it was very low….so we froze all night!!! I was so clod, I literally was sleeping with a blanket completley over my head so my face would not freeze!!!
Overall we had a great time and would love to do it again….but maybe this time in September or October when the weather is “just” right!
