Disclosure: I am being compensated as a Twitter Chat Consultant for Bloggin’ Mamas who is working with Element Associates, Get Covered America and the Ad Council for this campaign.
Yes, take care of people too!
Did you know that more than 1 in 6 Americans don’t have health insurance? I work in healthcare and the number of people without health insurance is staggering! But I can’t blame Americans for not being covered by health insurance, an affordable plan can be quite costly. And that more than half of the uninsured could find insurance for less than $100 per month (under $50 for people under 35)? ( 1 in 5 African Americans are uninsured. 1 in 4 Hispanics are uninsured.)
Most are uninsured because they do not receive coverage from an employer, cannot afford coverage, or were previously denied insurance due to a pre-existing condition. The uninsured are exposed to significant financial risk from medical issues, accidents or emergencies. Even young and healthy individuals are at-risk. One trip to the emergency room for a broken arm or a bad ear infection could cost thousands of dollars. That’s why it is important to have coverage and have a primary care already established.
I am working with the Ad Council and Get Covered America to raise awareness about the Health Insurance Marketplace and the financial assistance available. I’m not here to talk about politics, I’m here for you, your neighbor and possibly a family member. Many of you may be unaware of your health plan options or the March 31st deadline to enroll in subsidized healthcare, so I encourage you to visit http://www.getcoveredamerica.org to learn more. Don’t wait for your employee to decide if a policy will be available to you or your family. Think about yourself!
Also, I will be participating in a Twitter Chat Tuesday March 11th from 1p-2p EST via #TakeCareChat You can join in to learn more about Get Covered America and your options under the ACA. In case you miss that one, there will another one on March 18th from 1p-2p EST as well.
Don’t forget to take care of PEOPLE too!
