Like many mother and daughter relationships, my mother and I are very close but we have definitely had our ups and downs. For us, we have a rule: Someone always picks up the phone, always. I used to be able to call mom anytime I wanted to. Conversations were normal: fun, informative and rewarding. Once my mother’s health declined dramatically things changed. Our conversations were confusing, short and sometimes I was totally lost. But talking on the phone is good therapy for my other. It keeps her mind sharp and her wheels turning.

Since my mother’s first signs of dementia, she has lost many things. Losing money and her mobile phone seems to be her most frequently misplaced items. My parents are on a tight budget, every dollar counts including her mobile phone. We know mom will lose her cell phone so it is important to purchase a phone for her that has difference features but more importantly, the lowest priced unlimited plan possible!

Not only does she need an affordable phone but she also needs a low cost plan. My daughter was able to find a smart phone like the Galaxy Exhibit phone, service plan (for two months), and $25 Starter Kit. I can purchase my mother a new phone for Mother’s Day and we can continue to connect especially has her disease escalates. The money my dad saves on monthly mobile costs (if she loses it yet again) can be used to buy her a new phone.

My teenager and I went shopping for Mother’s Day. Since we were at Walmart we decided to learn more about Walmart’s Family Mobile Plan. For under $30 my mother can have unlimited Talk & Text. Not only can she have purchase Walmart’s cheapest plan but international rates are only $0.05 per minute to Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica y Mexico. Yay! Mom can connect with her own family outside the u.S without having to break the bank.

Three Generations

Now that my mother’s gift was purchased, we decided to find a few inexpensive gift ideas that my daughter (or anyone) can utilize as a possible mother’s day gift. We came up with several ideas listed in the picture below. Whether you are planning a picnic in the park or purchasing a new mobile unlimited plan, make sure to take sometime to reconnect with mom. Sometimes we get so caught up with life that we forget to be present and in the moment.

Now that my mother is declining I cherish the moment I spend with her. I don’t have to take her out to dinner or spend a lot of money on her. The short phone conversations are what I enjoy the most. Now I don’t feel bad when those short conversations turn into 1 hour long chats especially with the Walmart Family Mobile plan

How are you spending Mother’s Day this year?

I’ve never thought about Walmart for mobile phones. I know they have them but they aren’t on my radar as a place to purchase a new phone.
    Great Mother’s Day ideas!

What a great way to help your mother and to stay connected are an affordable rate. Cell phones are such a big part of our daily life now. I don’t know what we would do without ours!

I normally get my mother flowers and jewelry for Mother’s Day, but this year I might do something different. I love the spa basket idea!

My mother is no longer with us, but I am going to my Daughters and we will be celebrating the day before Mothers Day. My great gift this year is from my Granddaughter…. she will be graduating college the Day Before Mothers Day…

We have no Mother’s Day plans, at my wife’s request. Just a day of quiet with no chores/etc.

I always call my mom on mother’s day. Though this year, my mom’s mind is no longer there and I can’t do that, as she can’t handle phone call well without getting very confused. I will miss talking to her on mother’s day.

My son’s phone is through Walmart’s Family Mobile and we love the service and the prices.

The Walmart plan is such a great deal. It’s nice that they offer good prices to keep everyone connected, since it can be hard to stay in touch with family that is far away.

That makes me sad that you even have to plan this way. However, I’m glad you found an affordable low-priced plan and phone.

I call my friends and family in Canada using magic jack it’s 30 for the year and 100 for the device and it’s voice over ip you just need the internet to use it. for the texting to Canada I got a way around that too I use whats-app. I believe that option would be great for your mom you get unlimited talk to Canada Mexico and other countries are only 5 cents a minute. I didn’t think to look at the Wall-mart plan that looks like a great deal much better then the rip off I got out of metro pc. The sales person told me I would get a rebate for mine and my step daughters phones and the only phone the rebate covered was my husbands.

I know quite a few people that get their phones and plans through Walmart and are very happy. They also have a portable WiFi for traveling so that you can have internet wherever you go.

I love the sound of these plans – we do quite get the same thing over here, though I guess we have similar – the price of contracts and phones though sees to be souring! x

Wow 0.05cents to call internationally? Here in Canada it’s like .50cent to call the US and it can go up to 2$ and more to call other countries I’m always mislpleacing things these days. Lucky not my phone.

We are going to check to see if they have service where we live now. They had it back home and we were going to switch so I hope they have it here. Their rates are amazing.
