Almost 2 weeks ago my husband & I went to New Orleans to enjoy The All-New Gospel Brunch at House of Blues New Orleans, Produced by Kirk Franklin. If you live in the area or have traveled to New Orleans, The House of Blues is a musical landmark on its own. I’ve been to many concerts there back in the day and was thrilled to have a few hours alone with my husband. No kids, no work, cleaning or cooking? It already sounds like a perfect morning, right? Ha!!
The experience I had was, well moving! I went to the The All-New Gospel Brunch at House of Blues New Orleans thinking I was going to enjoy good downhome cooking (which I did) and listen to a few talented musical artist (which I did). But I was also moved! I felt I was in Church, not to Church I have never been to; but to a Church I wanted to be apart of. I listened, I laughed and I did cry.
My life is pretty amazing & I feel so blessed to have the experiences I have had in my life, but there are parts that are not as glamorous! Parts that I have no control over. Parts of my life where I feel defeated. I can only change myself, but it is not me that needs changing. I’m crying as I write this post. My mother has health problems that stem from her battle with addiction. As she fights, I love and pray for her.
At the The All-New Gospel Brunch I found myself crying. The lead singer who spoke about 20 years of sobriety & I thoughts went to my mother. Here I am eating the most amazing southern food that New Orleans has to offer, listening to classic & new hymn alike, and sitting with my partner in life that I am so blessed to have, my husband. I soaked in those 2 hurs of entertainment and treated like I DID just step out of a church!
When my mother gets out of the treatment center she is currently in, I am going to take her to The All-New Gospel Brunch at the House of Blues. By then she will need that down home cooking and revive in her faith with God and in herself!! I hope that she soaks in the same moving feeling I had, finds herself entertained and realizes how blessed she is to still be near her biggest supporter of her life- God.
