If your of fan of the George R. R. Martin’s The Game of Thrones fantasy novels, then your more than likely a fan of the HBO Fantasy Drama Game of Thrones which chronicles the struggles among the realm’s noble families for ultimate control of the Iron Throne. The series (and books) can be complex at time with the massive amount of noble families, how their lives intertwine, and who would have the right to the throne.

But one thing we can all agree on is that the characters, although complex in nature, are extremely entertaining. Some characters we respect for their desire to seek out the truth & fight for their families quest to control the throne and some you just love to hate!

My Top 5 Game of Thrones Characters I LOVE to Hate:

Joffrey_Baratheon_HBO
King Joffrey Baratheon:

He is evil, plain evil. Medication wouldn’t help this young man. The current “ruler” of the Seven kingdoms he claimed the throne as son of King Robert Baratheon. but actually he is the bastard son of Jaime Lannister and Queen Cersei Lannister. Why is he so evil? Well for starters he became engaged to Sansa Stark, but kept her captive in King’s Landing only after he beheaded her father for treason. Not cool Joffrey! After all that he set her to the side and formed an alliance between House of Tyrell by betrothing Margaery Tyrell.  Joffrey is very sick. He is spoiled, arrogant, and most of the time, I want to punch him in the neck.

Queen Regent Cersei Lannister

Cersei is the widow of King Robert Baratheon and now Queen Regent of the Seven Kingdoms. Her son Joffrey Baratheon (see above) the product of her incestuous relationship with her brother, Jaime Lannister. Aside from the fact she can’t control her son and her sick relationship with her brother, her father (Ruler of the Seven Kingdoms) taught her it is better to be feared, than to be loved. It is very obvious she engrained that thought into her son. She is adulterer with many lovers & there is nothing she won’t do to keep control & power of the crown within her own family.

Melisandre
Melisandree is a priestess of R’hllor in service to Stannis Baratheon, the older of two youngerbrothers to Robert Baratheon. In all actuality, Stannis Baratheon should be the true ruler. With the help of Melisandre he is fighting for the Iron Throne. We will see that Melisandre not only has her claws on Stannis Baratheon, but even confined his wife to the towers Drangonstone for being sickly and giving Stannie still-born sons. Not Nice, Melisandre!! She has some sort of enchantment of Stannis that even his own trusted confidants can’t help him see that Melisandre is a witch in every sense of the word. In Season 2, Melisandre gave birth to a black shadow assassin. No one that does that can be a very nice person, now can they?

Theon Greyjoy:

In one word, he is a traitor! Don’t let his smile fool you! He is cocky and arrogant. Although he was taken hostage 10 years prior to the series starts, he was raised in Winterfell with the Stark children and became a close friend to Robb Stark. Although he wants to be a Stark, once Robb Stark starts his mission to fight for the Iron throne, he decides to join his family that never cared for him, GreyJoy Clan. Not only did he try to make a move on his own sister (without knowing who she was) but he also decides to help his father, Balon Greyjoy fight for the throne. Really? Not only does he capture Winterfell (home to the Starks and his adopted family home) but also tries to kill young Bran, youngest son to Ned Stark and brother to Robb Stark (his former best friend). You deserve a good beheading Theon, and you might just get one!

Margaery-Tyrell

Margaery Tyrell
The newest little minx in the group, Margaery Tyrell is beautiful, slender and has kind eyes. Right! We know better. Once married to Renly Baratheon (who was assassinated) offers herself to Joffrey, the disturbed child-king as his betrothed. I haven;t finished reading the books but something about her is off. Margaery takes up residence at King’s Landing & she gains love from the local people by visiting the poor and orphans. She is no Snow White or Cinderella so something will happen soon. She is gaining the trust of the people and of King Joffrey for what? What is she hiding or planning?
