This is part of a sponsored collaboration with State Farm and Latina Mom Bloggers. However, all opinions expressed are my own.
Having a teen is hard enough but adding a teen driving is almost unthinkable. According to the CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance risky behaviors while driving such as not wearing a seat belt, texting while driving or riding in a car driven by someone who had been drinking is higher among Hispanic teens.
No matter how mature I *think* my teen is promoting safe driving practices like eyes on the road and 2 hands on the wheel is something I have already implemented. You can never start teaching safe driving practices too young especially when auto crashes are the number one cause of death among teens in North America.
Celebrate My Drive®, created by State Farm in 2012, share my belief that safe driving is a lifelong commitment from the start. You may have remembered my last post regarding the Celebrate My Drive® program. Thousands of students, family, friends and high school staff members have brought their communities together and rally around local young drivers. The program encourages them to make safe driving choices every time they’re behind the wheel.
Now that school has started for many teens Nationwide, State Farm is allowing communities to get involved again. You can get your schools signed up at www.celebratemydrive.com. Teens and community members can register their school and commit to safe driving once a day from October 15-24 in support of their favorite high school Registration ends October 7th, 2014.
What’s in it for the community or local teens? Aside from promoting safe driving habits, 100 high schools who have generated the most safe-driving commitments during Oct. 15-24 can win grants. The top two schools will win concerts performed by a GRAMMY® Award nominee band! That is not it! The 100 high schools with the most online safe driving commitments will win a grant award of $25,000 or $100,000. That is money in the bank!
