If you are making your holiday gifts this year and you know someone that is a great chef, or at least likes to be in the kitchen, pamper them with a gift basket made for cooks- for under $30! Each of these pieces are easy to make, as well as inexpensive, and you could do the whole basket in less than two hours.
Personalized Apron
If you have some stencils and fabric paint, pick up an inexpensive apron and personalize it for the recipient. This can be done with a saying on the front, their initials, or even a picture of food. Whatever you choose, use stencils to keep it straight on the fabric and then wash it after it’s dry to pre-shrink it.
Recipe in a jar
There are many recipes you can find online for a recipe in a jar gift. If you have a cook that likes to bake, do a cookie or brownie in a jar. If you have someone that enjoys cooking comfort foods, do a soup in a jar. With these gifts you provide the dry ingredients, arranged in a jar, and attach a tag to the lid of the jar with the recipe on it and instructions on how to make the food. You can decorate the jar and tag, or leave the jar blank so the recipient can use it in later cooking endeavors.
Personalized wooden cooking utensils
Buy a basic set of wooden utensils for $3 or less and paint them in a unique design. Allow them to dry and tie them together with a brightly colored ribbon. This is a great gift even if the person doesn’t use them to cook with because they make great decorations in a kitchen.
Cook Book
Start a home made cook book for the chef on your list. Buy a basic journal and decorate the outside. Then, fill in about 10 pages with great recipes either that your family has passed down through the generations or that you have found online. Try to print pictures out and paste them in, as well. Leave the other pages for the recipient to add their own recipes.
Hot pads
Visit a hardware store and buy two ceramic pieces of tile, one small and one medium. Then, purchase felt pieces at a craft sore and cut them down to the size of the tiles. Either decorate the tiles with Sharpie markers and bake them at 350 degrees for 30 minutes to set the sharpie, or paint them and lacquer them with a heat resistant topcoat. After the tiles have dried apply the felt to the back and place them in the basket as hot plates for them to use in the kitchen.
Are you a foodie? What would be a great gift you would enjoy under your Christmas tree this year?
