It’s very important to take care of the environment. Each and every one of use should be doing our part to conserve our energy and natural resources. There are many things you can do around the house to go green and do your part.
Green Tip #1
Our appliances use a lot of energy. To make the switch to eco-friendly living, update your appliances so that they’re Energy Star qualified. Although this might cost money to do, in the end, you’ll be saving both energy and your money.
Green Tip #2
All of your electronics that are plugged in can use energy, even when they’re not in use. To cut back on this waste of energy, unplug electronics when they’re not being used. If you can’t unplug your electronics, be sure to turn them off anytime they’re not in use and invest in a smart power strip to eliminate energy from being drained.
Green Tip #3
You can also go green in your bathroom. Switch out your current shower head for a low-flow showerhead that will reduce the amount of water you use. You can also take shorter showers to use less water. Even cutting out a minute or two out of your shower time can really help you conserve water and energy.
Green Tip #4
Your water habits can really be wasteful. In order to go green, be conscious about how you use water. Don’t leave the water running while doing dishes. Turn on the faucet to get the water you need and turn it off as quickly as possible. When doing laundry, wait until you have an entire load before starting it. Doing small loads can cause you to waste both water and energy. Use a cold rinse any time you do a load so that you don’t waste energy heating the water.
Green Tip #5
If you need to go to the store to pick up a few things, plan on running all of your errands for the week. Shop at stores that contain a variety of different products so that you don’t need to go to as many stores. Plan your errands so that you only need to take one trip to get them all done. This saves you time and can also reduce the emissions you use while driving.
Green Tip #6
Your light bulbs could be causing you to waste money and energy. Make the switch to energy-saving light bulbs such as CFLs or LEDs. These light bulbs are designed to use less energy while doing the same job. In addition to this, these light bulbs generally last longer, saving you the costs of buying new bulbs as often.
Green Tip #7
When possible, use natural lighting over light bulbs. Keep your lights off during the day and open the curtains. It doesn’t cost anything to use the sun as a lighting source. If you do need to turn on the lights, only turn on the lights you use at that time. When you leave a room, remember to turn off the light if no one else is using it.
Green Tip #8
Another easy way to go green is to adjust your thermostat. In the summertime, set your thermostat a little higher than you usually would. Do the same in the winter, but instead of setting it higher, set your thermostat lower. This helps to reduce the amount of energy it takes to maintain your home at the proper temperature.
Green Tip #9
If you’d like to go green, make the switch to paperless billing. Most companies offer this option, so take advantage of it. The next time you get a bill in the mail, consider all it took to make that envelop and to transport it to your mailbox. You should also pay all of your bills online so you don’t need to waste checks or stamps for mailing.
Green Tip #10
When possible, use reusable canvas bags rather than plastic or paper bags. This is especially helpful at the grocery store since you probably just throw away the bags you get during checkout. Although it costs money to purchase a reusable bag, you don’t need to pay anything else once you have the bag.

These are great tips. I highly recommend using natural light whenever possible. And changing to energy efficient light bulbs. We did that last year. Converted the entire house in one month. And by the next month we had saved over $20 on our power bill. BIG savings.
