Today we include Indiana in our A Walk In the Park, State Park Spotlight. For those of you not familiar with our 50 week series, Blogging Babies and the Bayou will take readers into a new state every week and feature local State Parks. My mission is to open the eyes of many readers and give a small glimpse of what your own state may offer. If you haven’t included Indiana into your U.S travel bucket list, then get ready to grab a pen and paper to make it official! Enjoy our Walk in the Park. Now, let’s journey to some of the state parks of Indiana.
Indiana Dunes State Park

Indiana Dunes consists of 2,182 acres of primitive, beautiful, historic and unique landscape. Some of the things Indiana Dunes offers it’s visitors is a Nature Center and Interpretive Naturalist Services, access to Calumet Trail with 9 miles of hiking, cross-country Skiing, Smelt fishing, and birding. A camping trip here consists of fun filled days outside swimming at the beach or skiing the trails, weather permitting of course.
You can enjoy hiking followed by a relaxing picnic lunch under the sun. The hiking trails vary in intensity from easy to moderate and rugged but hikers are rewarded with some of the most breathtaking views of nature they will ever see. There are also really cool events at Indiana Dunes like concerts and fun stuff like sand sculpture contests. This is the perfect place for a family vacation.

Brown County encompasses nearly 16,000 acres of rugged hills, ridges and ravines and is nicknamed the “Little Smokies” because of the area’s resemblance to the Smoky Mountains. The Abe Martin Lodge offers accommodations that include motel rooms, cabins, dining and conference facilities and an indoor water park. There are large campgrounds, trails for hiking or mountain biking, guided horse rides and a campground with 70 miles of horse trails. Brown County State Park is popular all year round because there is just so much to do all the time.
The nearby city of Nashville is known for it’s shopping, dining, arts and crafts, history and entertainment. Brown County State Park has a Nature Center, bridle trails, ice fishing, swimming pools, tennis courts and playground equipment. It’s the perfect vacation spot for all ages because there is something for everyone to do. Nobody will be bored on this trip.

Harmonie State Park has some of the best trails around. There are trails for hiking, biking and nature walks. There is also an amazing swimming pool with a water slide to cool off in and shady picnic areas to grab a bite to eat. The landscape is beautiful and you will surely be wowed by the scenery that surrounds you. You can play hard all day on the trails and then come back to the pool to get in a few laps or some floating.
Harmonie State Park offers a boat launch ramp, fishing, a nature center, bridle trail, bike trail, hiking trails and camping. there are also special events held here like Arts In The Park, Breakfast With The Bird, Insect Investigation and a Mobile Nature Center. This State Park is bursting with fun but also educational things for everyone to enjoy. The whole family can learn and play here.
