Hosting a slumber party is always a blast for the kids but for the Mom it takes a good bit of prep work to prepare for an upcoming sleepover. Having one child spend the night is fairly easy but adding additional children is a different animal!
My daughter is almost 15 years old and has been to her fair share of sleepovers at her friends house. But for parents to younger children you might have a few questions. What are the sleepover must haves?
Invitations seem formal but it can be very useful for party planning. Yes, you can go on social media and ‘virtually’ invite your child’s friends over, but for the everyday busy parent , they need a friendly reminder. An invite will specially let the parents know your contact information, address and drop off/pick up times. Weekends are super busy at my house so although a sleepover would be fun, we sometimes have to wake up early the next morning for church or sporting events as do other parents. Communication is key and invites can be your best friend.
Having plenty of snacks and beverages are a must. Not only must you have snacks but having a variety can be beneficial when your hosting a sleepover for picky eaters. Sliced fruit and veggies are always a fantastic choice but I also like to have something sweet for the kids. I like to buy a few bags of M&M’s® to keep on hand for baking or as a sweet treat in the evening. I can pick up a variety of various flavors like M&M’s® Crispy, M&M’s® Original and M&M’s® Peanut at Sam’s Club and buy in bulk. The M&M’s® XXL bags are perfect for a girl’s night in. Parents can fix a fruit tray, add a section of loose M&M’s®, pop in the latest sing-along movie and your little ones will be entertained for hours.
Don’t forget to include activities like crafts, games and my personal favorite: baking! If you do not have time to bake prior to hosting your child’s sleepover, purchase cupcake ingredients and let each child decorate their own cupcake. The XXL big bags are available at Sam’s Club in several varieties. M&M’s® M&M’s® Original, M&M’s® Crispy, & M&M’s® Peanut are perfect ingredients to store in your baking pantry.
Also, ask each invited child to bring their own pillows, blankets or sleeping bag if necessary. If you are able to, when a parent RSVP’s to the sleepover, ask if they have any dietary restrictions or allergies. Inquire about medication and their contact information so you can call each child’s parents if an emergency arises.
Print your own Free Printable Slumber Party Invites and personalize your information so parents know all the pertinent details of your child’s upcoming sleepover.
Most importantly, have fun! Hosting your child’s sleepover will bring a smile to your child’s face and your hard work will pay off when you hear laughter coming from your favorite little people.
Has your child hosted their 1st sleepover? What are your child’s favorite sleepover snacks?

My boys never had sleepovers. I think they went to 1 for a friend’s birthday party but that is all I remember.

We had sleepovers every weekend when I was growing up. I still remember all of the movies we used to watch and how many fun snacks we had. Such a blast!

This is such a cute idea! Having two boys, it’s not cool to call them sleepovers but we do call them gaming parties!

M&M’s make any event more enjoyable. There are all kinds of ways it can enhance a slumber party too. Thanks for the printable too.

We’ve had a couple of sleepovers. We lock the kids in the backyard and then they can come in through the back door if need be. They have a blast!! M&M’s are our go-to treat because they are portable and easy to eat!

We hosted friends (and their kids) so that was technically the kids first sleepover. They had a lot of fun. What great ideas you came up with!

My two girls had sleepovers all the time when they were growing up. I loved doing it, so much fun. When I was a Girl Scout leader, we had a sleepover for the troop at my house once a month. We always watched two movies: one an old classic like Gone With The Wind, and one a new movie, like, at the time, Roadhouse. The girls really loved watching the old classic romance type movies. We always had pizza and ice cream, the two favorites.
