New Orleanians are very familiar with the San Fermin en Nueva Orleans Running of the Bulls event held every summer. The New Orleans version of the San Fermin festival includes thousands of locals running streets of the French Quarter while hundreds of Rollerbulls (roller derby skaters with horns and plastic bats in) “attack” in a unique encierro. The festival is a fundraiser for the Animal Rescue New Orleans and The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Louisiana and is sponsored by The Hotel Collection.

In addition to the San Fermin en Nueva Orleans (Running of the Bulls),  the festival also includes a San Fermin Wine Dinner held at Hotel Mazarin held Thursday, July 10, 2014 – 7pm. The wine dinner features Marqués de Cáceres wines paired with flavorful cuisine at the luxurious Hotel Mazarin. Guest will also enjoy live music by Brazilian guitarist Riccardo Crespo.

The unique wine dinner complements the annual encierro in New Orleans and pays homage to the world famous Encierro of Pamplona, Spain. In fact, the Guest of Honor will be Governor Bernardo de Gálvez. Short history lesson: The Spanish governor of Louisiana from 1785–1786 played a vital role in Louisiana History as he established free trade with Cuba and Yucatán. He also founded Galvez Town in 1779 and colonized Nueva Iberia, (New Iberia). You will be glad to know this information next time you walk on Galvez Street.

Attire for the evening reflects San Fermin feast day so be sure to wear traditional red and white to the event.
