Being as safe driver is crucial but having a safe vehicle can is just as important! My daughter will have her permit soon so it’s critical that I maintain my vehicle inside and out. That means replacing the tires, making sure my windshield wipers are in tact and of course, getting my oil changed regularly. Changing my vehicle’s oil is like clockwork. My minivan is always on the road especially since we are a traveling family.
normally my husband takes car of our vehicle’s maintenance but it’s important that our teen has an idea of the work that goes into maintaining a safe vehicle. Since I have a road trip in less than two weeks, I thought I would bring my car to Walmart of an oil change and show Sarah our vehicle maintenance log. Regardless of who or where we get our oil changed, I keep track and leave our paperwork in the glove compartment for easy accessibility.
To ensure my vehicle is properly maintained I can have the ease and convenience of getting my oil change while I do my weekly grocery shopping. Walmart just made my life easier, right!?! My husband wrote the type of oil we use under our engine hood so any of Walmart’s ACC employees can access the info asap. That my friends is just how serious he is about his motor oil! But seriously, Walmart Auto Care Center offers confidence and reliability we need in order to take care of our car.
Now that Sarah is sooooo close to getting her license, I had her interact with the staff members at Walmart’s Auto Care Center so that she can learn how the oil change process works. Walmart offers a large selection of premium oil to choose from. Quaker State Oil at Walmart comes in various oil types like Advanced Durability Motor Oil, Ultimate Durability – Full Synthetic Motor Oil or Defy – High Mileage Motor Oil
My vehicle has logged a TON of miles! Since I focus on family travel, one short trip can yield almost 1500 miles. Plus my family and I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere. I need my vehicle to be well maintained or my things like school sports, music lessons even grocery shopping would be a major inconvenience.
When I was about 12 years old, moving from our Latino community in North Hollywood, California to not-so Latino Small town, USA was a hard transition! Public transportation was nonexistent and since we relied heavily on public transport previously not having a vehicle was so inconvenient. Not knowing anyone felt isolating, but not having a ride for basic household errands was a disaster. Remembering those feelings has made me conscience of auto care for my own vehicle and a feeling I never want my daughter to know as a driver.
Initially I had planned to get our oil changed, get some groceries and eat some lunch while we waited for our vehicle but by the time our grocery shopping was complete, I sat down for about 30 seconds before my name was called over the loud speakers. We were excited to leave and enjoy lunch in the comfort of our own home.
I can’t believe my minivan has 175K miles on it! I plan on driving it for another year and passing it on to my daughter once she passes her motor vehicle text. Since our vehicle has high mileage, we choose Quaker State Oil Defy – High Mileage Motor Oil.
It’s so important that you chose your motor oil carefully. Since Walmart offers several brands, we can let them know which motor oil we prefer and still pay everyday low Walmart price. Our minivan has traveled across the U.S and has not let us down, we have to treat her right!
But vehicle maintenance is more than just getting an oil change every few months. Normally I purchase things like windshield wipers, replace the battery and even have our spark plugs changed. Keeping track of that is so convenient.
I made a auto vehicle checklist that I keep in my glove compartment and can be monitored regularly by myself or my husband. Nothing is worse than driving on a busy interstate and your tire blows out OR driving in a heavy thunderstorm when your windshield wipers stop wiping rain off your windshield!
Print several copies of our vehicle maintenance checklist for free. Save this link and send it to your friends and family, they deserve to be organized you are!

That is a ton of great info and I agree 100% we do seem to be more attentive when it is our kids who will be behind the wheel! My daughter has been driving a few years now and I am always on her about keeping her car in good maintenance! A great guide and post for new drivers and parents of new drivers.

My car is a bit older now and it’s SO important to keep up with the maintenance. Our famly does a lot of road trips and the last thing we need is for the car to break down.

All of the vehicle maintenance is my sweetie’s job, and especially since I don’t drive…or have a license. I do remind him about regular oil changes though. We go to Walmart to get essentials that we need for the car.
