Last summer my family and I had to pleasure of camping at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park in Robert, LA. Since my family and I enjoy camping, we were thrilled to know we can have some family fun, so close to the New Orleans Metro area. We loaded up the minivan, threw the bikes in the truck and waited for the kids to get off the school bus one Friday afternoon. An hour later we arrived, unpacked and went to explore the camp ground.

Celebrate Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Parks 40th Anniversary!
In 1972, Maurice & Myrle LeBlanc took six of their eight children to Disney World all piled into a station wagon towing a small pop-up. When the family arrived at the Yogi Bear Campground in Apopka, Florida, the children were excited to be going to Disney. While the family went to Disney on the first day of their vacation, the second day was spent at Jellystone as they needed some rest and relaxation. You can imagine his surprise when, on the third day, Mr. LeBlanc woke the family to go to Disney and their response was that they just wanted to stay put at Jellystone.
The History of Jellystone Parks
The rest of the vacation Mr. LeBlanc wondered how to bring this back home to Louisiana. Upon returning home, the LeBlancs went back to their regular camping spot and
Maurice asked friends if they would come to a fun and family-friendly campground if he built one.
On the weekend before Memorial Day of 1975, the park opened to many friends and guests with a store, pool, bathhouse and mini-golf. That clientele did follow and word began to spread. The LeBlancs started one of the first recreation and entertainment programs for campgrounds with games and crafts and songs they had learned from scout programs and other organizations.
Why Your Family Should Visit Jellystone
1.Lots to do
Every weekend, from the last weekend in February until the last weekend in November and every day in the summertime, there are planned activities. Today the son of the late Maurice LeBlanc, Maurice LeBlanc, Jr. and his wife, Me-Me, have built on that family relationship and tradition for customers with extraordinary family fun time and award-winning recreational activities. With their great staff, the LeBlancs have a jam packed weekend waiting for each and every person who comes through the impressive entrance into the realistic cartoon-like wonderland.
2. Nostalgia
Many of our guests are in the fourth generation of family that come out for all of our special events. The majority of campers and cabin renters live less than 125 miles away.
3. Family Fun
The Recreation Schedule includes a flag raising ceremony and a “Hey” ride (a term developed by the LeBlancs because you wave and say Hey) each morning with the Bears. The day continues with our great Rec Staff helping families to enjoy games, contests, volleyball games, crafts, horseshoes, ceramics, bingo, and the extraordinary list goes on and on. It is a fun and happening place to be and you can always have “A Great Day at Yogi Bear”
Be Part of History

When was the last time you had a family camping experience? What is your family’s favorite camping activity?
Looks like a lot of fun! I haven’t been camping since I went with my family as a teen.
I remember Yogi Bear growing up. “hey hey boo boo!”
We love Yogi Bear Park! We have gone twice in the Canyon Lake area and it is always a guaranteed fun time! So clean with so many activities.
Wow how fun! I haven’t been camping since i was a kid and we all LOVE yogi bear! How fun would this be!
We’ve never done anything even similar to camping…LOL! But this place looks like so much fun!
This definitely looks like a place my family would enjoy. I wish it was closer to home – Florida. Keeping it on my travel bucket list!
I did not know there was a REAL Jellystone Park! Oh my, brings back so many memories of watching the cartoons. If we head to LA, I’ll have to put this on our to-do list.
This sounds like such a fun place. I wish it was closer. We are thinking about planning a camping trip.
I like to camp in a cabin. 😉 The kids like the tents. My grandparents used to sleep in the RV and put us kids in the tent, and everyone was happy.
I’ve always wanted to visit a Jellystone campground. They look like a lot of fun!
Now that looks like a lot of fun! Love the photos!
